Veerappan’s wife demands ban on movie


CHENNAI: Slain forest brigand Veerappan's wife Muthulakshmi on Wednesday sought a ban on a movie 'Vanayudham' saying it portrays her husband and the family in poor light.

Muthulakshmi told reporters that A M R Ramesh, the film's director had never discussed the story with her. "The film portrays my husband and our family in bad light. I have serious objections to the film being released in Tamil Nadu. It must be banned," she said.

Asked whether she will reconsider her stand if changes were made to the film, she said she will not allow film to be released unless the director consulted her about every scene "as there are a lot of factual errors". Muthulakshmi, who spent six years in the custody of special task force and three years in a Karnataka jail in connection with various cases in which her husband was involved, said the portrayal of her as a cruel woman in the film would influence pending cases against her.

Veerappan Attahasa (Vana Yudhdham), the biopic on the notorious late forest brigand Veerappan, which was all set for release, but has unfortunately been stayed by a Chennai court. Ganesa Moorthy, an assistant city civil judge, has passed an order on the staying of the release of this movie, based on a petition filed by Nakkheeran Gopal, the editor of a Tamil magazine.

Gopal played the role of a government emissary, based on the requests of the TN and Karnataka governments, on the occasion when Veerappan abducted and held famous Kannada matinee idol Dr. Rajkumar, and 3 of relatives, hostage. Gopal mediated and played a major hand in the release of the hostages. Gopal states that he had seen newspaper reports that AMR Ramesh, V Srinivas and K Jagadeesh had made a full fledged film on the life of Veerappan, and that the movie was to be released in the first week of May. Gopal has stated in his petition that he had published a book on the notorious brigand, and has registered the copyrights of the book under his name. Gopal had also gone on to state that he did not want to claim copyright for the film, but apprehended that his character should not be spoiled by the movie.

The judge, on hearing Gopal's plea, directed the makers of Veerappan Attahasa (Vana Yudhdham) to screen the movie to Gopal, and get his consent about his character in the movie, before its release.

Veerappan Attahasa (Vana Yudhdham) has Arjun and Kishore playing pivotal roles, and has already created quite a buzz of anticipation amongst the fans of both Kollywood and Sandalwood.

ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಚಿತ್ರದ ನಿರ್ಮಾಪಕ ಹಾಗೂ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಎಎಂಆರ್ ರಮೇಶ್, ನಕ್ಕೀರನ್ ಗೋಪಾಲ್ ಕೋರ್ಟ್ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲೇರಿದ್ದ ಕಾರಣ 'ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ' ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣರನ್ನು ತಾತ್ಕಾಲಿಕವಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಈಗ ತಡೆಯಾಜ್ಞೆ ತೆರವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಜೂನ್ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ತೆರೆಗೆ ತರುತ್ತಿರುದಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ತಾವು ' ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ' ಚಿತ್ರ ಮಾಡಲು ಹೊರಟಾಗ ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್ ಪತ್ನಿ ಮುತ್ತುಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಬಳಿ ರು.1.50 ಕೋಟಿ ಹಣ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದರು. ತಾವು ಕೊಡದೆ ಇದ್ದ ಕಾರಣ ಅವರು ನನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಲ್ಲಸಲ್ಲದ ಆರೋಪಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರ ಆರೋಪಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಕೃತಿಚೌರ್ಯ ಆರೋಪಕ್ಕೆ ರಮೇಶ್ ತಿರುಗೇಟು

ಇನ್ನೇನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೆ ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ಎಎಂಆರ್ ರಮೇಶ್ ಅವರ 'ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ' ಚಿತ್ರ ಕೃತಿಚೌರ್ಯ ಆರೋಪಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. 'ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್: ನರಹಂತಕನ ರುದ್ರ ನರ್ತನ' ಎಂಬ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಯಿಂದ ಕತೆಕದ್ದು ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ ಟಿ.ಗುರುರಾಜ್ ಗಂಭೀರ ಆರೋಪ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು.

ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯಿಸಿರುವ ರಮೇಶ್, ನಾನು ಯಾರ ಕತೆಯನ್ನೂ ಕದ್ದಿಲ್ಲ. ಗುರುರಾಜ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ನಾನು ಇದುವರೆಗೂ ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನೂ ಓದಿಲ್ಲ. ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಈಗಾಗಲೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಜನ ಹಲವಾರು ಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕ್ರೆಡಿಟ್ ಕೊಡುಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೆ? ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಮುಂದುವರೆದು, 2006ರಿಂದ ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಾನು ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕವಿದ್ದವರನ್ನು ಸಂದರ್ಶಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಇವೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ರೆಕಾರ್ಡ್ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ದಾಖಲೆಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಇವೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಆದರೆ ಪತ್ರಕರ್ತ ಗುರುರಾಜ್ ಅವರು ಮಾತ್ರ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಲೇಬೇಕು ಹಾಗೂ ನನಗೆ ಬರಬೇಕಾಗಿರುವ ಗೌರವಧನ ಬರಲೇಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಆಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆ ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಗೆಹರಿಯುವ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.

ಈ ಹಿಂದೊಮ್ಮೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಅನುಮತಿ ಪಡೆಯದೆ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಎ.ಎಂ.ಆರ್ ರಮೇಶ್ ತೆರೆಗೆ ತರುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು 'ನಕ್ಕೀರನ್' ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯ ಸಂಪಾದಕ ಆರ್ ಆರ್ ಗೋಪಾಲ್ ಕೋರ್ಟ್ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲೇರಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧ 'ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ' ಚಿತ್ರ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೆ ಕೋರ್ಟ್ ನಿರ್ಬಂಧ ಹೇರಿ ಬಳಿಕ ತೆರವುಗೊಳಿಸಿತ್ತು.

ಚಿತ್ರವೊಂದು ಇನ್ನೇನು ತೀರಾ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಹಂತಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ವಿವಾದಕ್ಕೀಡಾಗುವುದು ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರೋದ್ಯಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಚಾರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆಯೋ ಅಥವಾ ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ವಿವಾದ ಎದುರಾಗಿದೆಯೋ ಎಂಬುದು ಮಾತ ನಿಗೂಢವಾಗಿದೆ.(ಒನ್ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ)

AMR will not give credit to anyone

Director AMR Ramesh refutes T Gururaj’s claim that he took inputs from the latter’s book for his film Attahasa

It would seem that director AMR Ramesh’s film on the slain forest brigand Veerappan, Attahasa, courts controversy every other day. The filmmaker is already battling it out in court with people associated with Veerappan, including his wife Muthulakshmi and Nakeeran Gopalan. The latest in the series is a complaint filed by Mysore-based media professional T Gururaj with the Karnataka Film Director’s Association (KFDA), claiming that Ramesh had approached him for inputs from his book on Veerappan. “Before he began shooting for the film, Ramesh came to me as he thought that my book Rudhra Narthana was very informative. He said that he’d use some inputs and give me credit for the same. Subsequently, though, I never heard from him. I was not invited to the muhurat and not given credit. Hence, I filed a complaint,” says Gururaj.

Based on the promotional material of the film and Ramesh’s narration of his story at press conferences, the president of the KFDA, MS Ramesh, asked the director to give Gururaj credit for the inputs used.

Ramesh, though, is indignant and says that he’ll not give credit to anyone. “I’ve never met Gururaj, and have not read his book. There are so many people who’ve written books and articles about Veerappan. Can I give credit to all of them? I will not give credit to anyone. Even if a hundred people come to me with such claims, I will take them all to court,” says the director, adding, “I’ve been researching about Veerappan since 2006. All my interviews with people associated with him have been recorded and documented.”

And with Ramesh unwilling to oblige, Gururaj claims that he too will seek legal assistance in sorting out the matter. “I am going to claim credit and royalty,” he says.

ಎಎಂಆರ್ ರಮೇಶ್ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಹಾಗೂ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ 'ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ' ಚಿತ್ರ, ಸೆನ್ಸಾರ್ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗಲು ಸಜ್ಜಾಗಿದೆ. ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್ ಕುರಿತಾದ ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ತಮಿಳುನಾಡು ಹಾಗೂ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಎರಡೂ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿದೆ. ಎರಡೂ ಭಾಷೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಸಿನಿಮಾವನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಿಸಿರುವ ಎಎಂಆರ್ ರಮೇಶ್, 'ಸೈನೈಡ್' ಬಳಿಕ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಬ್ರೇಕ್ ಗಾಗಿ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡುಗಳಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ವಿಶೇಷ ಎನ್ನಬೇಕೋ, ವಿಭಿನ್ನ ಎನ್ನಬೇಕೋ ಎಂಬುದು ಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಿದ ಹೊರತೂ ತಿಳಿಯುವಂತಿಲ್ಲ.

"ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ, ಅವನ ಕ್ರಿಯೆ, ವ್ಯವಹಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾಡುಗಳ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆ ನನಗೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಮೂಮೂಲಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳಂತೆ ಈ ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಡು-ಕುಣಿತಗಳು ಕಂಡುಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಬರಬೇಕೆಂದು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ಆ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂದೀಪ್ ಚೌಟರಿಗೆ ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದೆ. ಅವರು ಅತ್ಯದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿ ರೀರೆಕಾರ್ಡಿಂಗ್ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣ ಮುಗಿದಿರುವ ನನ್ನ ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸದ್ಯದಲ್ಲೇ ಸೆನ್ಸಾರ್ ಟೇಬಲ್ ಏರಲಿದೆ. ಚಿತ್ರ ಸೆನ್ಸಾರ್ ಆದ ನಂತರ, ರಾಜ್ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ಸಂದರ್ಶನ ನಡೆಸಿ ತದನಂತರ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರ ಮುಂದೆ ಇಡಲಿದ್ದೇನೆ" ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಎಂಆರ್ ರಮೇಶ್. ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್, ಡಾ ರಾಜ್ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಿಡ್ನಾಪ್ ಮಾಡಿ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ನಂತರ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ವೀರಪ್ಪನ್ ಕಥೆಯಾಧಾರಿತ ಚಿತ್ರ ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸಕ್ಕೂ ಡಾ ರಾಜ್ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೂ ಸಹಜವಾಗಿ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಏರ್ಪಟ್ಟಂತಾಗಿದೆ.

ಆದರೆ ಹಾಡುಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಟಿವಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಚಾರ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ? ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗೆ ಸ್ವತಃ ಎಎಂಆರ್ ರಮೇಶ್ ಪರಿಹಾರ ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಲಾವಿದರನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಪ್ರಮೋಶನಲ್ ಹಾಡೊಂದನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಿಸಿ ಅದನ್ನೇ ವಾಹಿನಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಾರ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಪ್ರಚಾರಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು. ಹೇಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ರೈ, ಭಾವನಾ ರಾವ್ ಹಾಗೂ ವಿಜಯಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ಮೂವರು ನಾಯಕಿಯರು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಮೋಶನಲ್ ಹಾಡಲ್ಲಿ ಗ್ಲಾಮರ್ ಅಂಶಕ್ಕೇನೂ ಕೊರತೆಯಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಸಂಗೀತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಸಂದೀಪ್ ಚೌಟರಿಗೆ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಿಗೆ ಆ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು ವಹಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರಂತೆ ರಮೇಶ್. ಆದರೆ ಆ ಹಾಡು ಕೇವಲ ವಾಹಿನಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಾರವಾಗುವುದೇ ವಿನಃ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ಅವರು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಅಟ್ಟಹಾಸ ಚಿತ್ರವು ಡಾ ರಾಜ್ ಕುಟುಂಬ ನೋಡಿದ ಹೊರತೂ ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಕರ ಮುಂದೆ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. Whose voice is it for Rajkumar?

When it was announced that AMR Ramesh’s film on forest brigand Veerappan, Attahasa, will have the episode of his abduction of Kannada film legend Rajkumar, there was huge speculation as to who would play that role.

Bollywood actor Suresh Oberoi essayed that role, but dubbing for the role in the Kannada version of the film had run into trouble. The director had approached some of the senior Kannada actors and they flatly refused. Now, the dubbing is done by an unknown artist.

Ramesh, it is learnt, approached senior actors Ashok, Ramesh Bhat and Srinivas Murthy to dub for Rajkumar’s character. But all of them refused. The reason was simple: nobody wanted to slip into the shoes of Rajkumar. Ashok, who early in his career, was likened to Rajkumar for his looks and even allegedly imitating the legend, was the first to refuse. When the film was announced, it was speculated that Ashok would play the actor’s role for obvious reasons, but it went to Oberoi. When Ramesh Bhat also refused, Srinivas Murthy was the choice. Murthy was very close to Rajkumar and the latter had great affection for him. Murthy, too, refused to dub for Oberio as he felt the role should have gone to a Kannada actor, perhaps even Ashok. Sandalwood sources said that senior Kannada actors are apprehensive about dubbing because of possible adverse reaction from Rajkumar fans as the abduction was a negative episode in the otherwise illustrious life of the actor.

Ramesh, however, refused to answer whether the three actors were approached. He said, “No comment please. There is no answer for this question.“

Rajkumar’s son, Raghavendra Rajkumar, was also speculated to have dubbed for the role, but it turned out to be false.

Ramesh said, “It is impossible to match the voice of Rajkumar. Many may mimic him, but we all know that Rajkumar’s voice was as great as his acting abilities.The film is complete and we are applying for a Censor Certificate this week. I tried voices of three different persons. And finally settled for one. In the Tamil and Telugu versions, singer Surendra, who has lent voice for Kokila Mohan in all his films has dubbed for the role.”
