Review by chitraloka.com

Hundredth films have generally been not lucky enough for even top super stars of the Kannada film industry. But in the case of actor Sharan who has turned producer with his 100th film, reverse seems to have happened. Rambo is not only a surprise packet for the fans, but a typical comedy thriller which has lots and lots of surprises. The film is quite engaing from start and finish and the second half is just brilliant. The narration has elements of surprise, comedy and some realism thrown in. Hats off to producer Atlanta Nagendra, actor Sharan and the director Srinath who has written a very interesting script to engage the audience in full measure. Rambo is certainly a full meals for the fans. With top class technical work of cameraman Krishna, music director Arjun Janya and superb editing, the credit of weaving a tight script should go to the director. His choice of locations and the twists he provides in the story from time to time makes it a thoroughly enjoyable fare to watch.
The combination of Sharan and Tabla Nani walks out with honurs. Sadhu Kokila and Rangayana Raghu have also done their best in evoking laughter among the audience. The film's heroine Madhuri oozes some sex appeal in the songs and a few sequences. Veteran actor Umesh is top class in his cameo role.
You will not find a minute of boredom in the film with continuous laughter from start to finish. The dialogues written for the film by Tabala Naani in a few sequences are appropriate.
Rambo provides you full satisfaction of seeing a good film. Watch it and you will be happy to recommend it to your friends too. If you watch it with your girl friend, then nothing like that as she will to too pleased with your choice.
A worth watch and film needs to be encouraged not only for fantastic songs, but a thrilling story and climax.
Forget the logic, Enjoy the Magic.

STORY –

‘Rambo’ is a film that surrounds around a trickster. That is Kitty (Sharan). He has a mother in the house. He has a maternal uncle to his company Premkumar (Tabla Naani).

In a way it is ‘Varahavatara’ from Kitty to his car broker business. He catches the sentiment in the society that any vehicle should not dash against a Pig or a Pig should not dash any vehicle. The superstitious belief is that it would smash the further life. No one is ready to take this danger in life.

Using the Pig, Kitty was very cool in his set up to take the cars to custody for his business. In one of the cases a black color car owned by Umesh is demanded by a Swamiji. The deal comes to Kitty and Premkumar. With this further danger also follows the two. When they open the dickey they find a dead body. This body is chased by a terrorist gang and the same car is also chased by former minister Annappa (Rangayana Raghu) as it has Rs.25 crores in it.

Knowing about the dead Kitty wants to hand it over to the party who demanded it and he finds a murdered person. In the later course of time they finds it belongs to a minister and the money inside make them greedy. In such a situation Kitty wants to know why terrorists are behind that body in his dickey. He scans the body and finds a pen drive tucked inside. That explains a terrorist gang is up to a major demolition of peace.

Kitty comes straight to DC Vijayalakshmi (Shruthi) and becomes a good citizen with handing over everything to the government.

ANALYSIS –

In a comedy film lacing the good contents and spreading it across in two hours plus is the tough task this team has done successfully.

Very attractive thought of this film is Golden Star Ganesh commentary in the background with lord Ganesha idol shown whenever his voice appeared. The dialogues given to Ganesh are well written.

Of course there are unnecessary and unwanted situations that drag the film but overall effort is quite convincing.

Director Srinath for this film has done a studious work with Tarun Sudhir, Sharan, cameraman Krishna and others. That is evident because the surprises are unveiled at regular intervals.

The first half moves in a brisk pace and keeps audience to wait and watch. When the second half opens up there are some more surprises that makes the expectations go wrong. It is the screenplay that is the winner in this film.

In addition to it the mother sentiment, love and comedy never missing makes this film worth watching. The selection of cast in this film, the placement one good song pre and post interval is also well driven thought of this film team.

The 100th film of Sharan a joint venture with Atlanta Nagendra who made 100 days film ‘Joke Falls’ a few years ago has all the elements of a worthwhile film.

In the first half the ‘Test’ that Kitty makes when he goes for a match could have been updated instead of a physical test. That looks stupid. In the past a few of the Kannada films thought of this medical certificate of boy and girl before marriage definitely needed a new treatment for the year 2012. Thank god the physical test the protagonist makes is not shown on the screen to approve the girl.

The film ‘Rambo’ ending with a song in which all those who worked behind right from muhurut shot is a good respect to the film team.

PERFORMANCES –

Sharan is brilliant actor. There is no doubt about it. Knowing his limitations he has adjusted very well to give a very convincing performance. In the Navarasas of acting Sharan has left the ‘stunts’. That is once again a good decision. His dialogue delivery and quick reflexes are trump card of this film. In any given role so far in 100 films Sharan never disappointed.

Table Nani as his maternal Uncle in the film should have got more dialogues. However his performance has some standard and appeals to the B and C centers.

Madhuri after a few years of stay in Kannada cinema has got a right role. She has to cut down weight and increase in performance in the coming films.

Rangayana Raghu with Dakshin Kannada accent of Kannada and Sadhu Kokila as beggar on wheel gives laughter whenever they appear on screen. Kuri Pratap has been sidelined in this film. Umasri the national award winning actress is once again peerless in this kind of role.

TECHNICALITY –

The dialogues written are superb. That is always very important in a comedy flick like ‘Rambo’. Even in songs the words are very good. That is especially when a sorrow song comes up.

S Krishna the expert in cinematography has never fallen back in giving his best. The frames are colorful. The editing is in high standards. The music department from Arjun Janya is successful in giving two peppy tunes and one sorrow song.

There is grand production value. The film is no doubt a ‘Ladoo’ for masses from Ladoo Creations!

Last but not the Least – Cashing on sentiment cannot be peppermint. It can be only dejection!

GOOD ENTERTAINER – Score – 3.5/5

Rambo 3D - Sharan - Arjun - Releasing on7th Empty Re: Rambo 3D - Sharan - Arjun - Releasing on7th

Review: Rambo is just average
September 07, 2012 16:41 IST

Popular Kannada comedian Sharan's latest film Rambo is a mixed bag with comical elements and some thrilling moments.
The film not only happens to be Sharan's 100th film, but also marks his foray into film production.

Krishna (Sharan) and his uncle Prem Kumar (Tabla Nani) unscrupulously sell and buy cars. He is an eligible bachelor who is keen to get hitched.

He has a crude way of interviewing his would-be brides. He meets his match in name of character (Madhuri) who agrees to the alliance. But, the car deals land him in trouble and his girl walks out on him even though he is keen to mend his ways.

Madhuri's friend plays mediator and unites the two lovers. The story takes off on another sub-plot where a gang of terrorists are running for their lives but not before creating havoc.

There's a dead body in Krishna's car that he is unable to palm off and when he changes the colour and number plate of the car, it is mistaken for a former minister's missing car.

The rest of the story is about how the sub-plots come together. What is the truth? Who is Rambo?

The film lacks logic but raises a few laughs. Sharan keeps the audience in splits. Tabla Nani is the perfect foil for Sharan.
Madhuri is adequate and so is Deepika who plays her friend.

Arjun Janya's music has a winner already in Mane Tanka Baare. S Krishna's cinematography is good.

Rambo is an average family entertainer that defies logic but with some funny moments.

Rambo 3D - Sharan - Arjun - Releasing on7th Empty Re: Rambo 3D - Sharan - Arjun - Releasing on7th

Post by Hatavadhi Sat Sep 08, 2012 5:57 pm

Bangalore Mirror Review

Rambo: Steals the heart

Expecting films that go beyond the usual hero-centric plots is a strict no-no in our films. The rare ones that do think beyond are usually ones with the ‘comic hero’. However, all the comedy actors who turn leading men are guilty of trying to imitate the run-of-the-mill heroic plots, be it action or sentiments.

Sharan, who also turns producer with his this 100th film, manages to keep the heroic histrionics to the bare minimum. Rambo does not have an unusual plot, but the incidents in its narrative are quite fresh. The way two car thieves go about their conning job is something new on the screen and obviously could not have been taken from any foreign film. It is too desi to be lifted. Sharan and his uncle Nani are car thieves. Sharan, who has a tendency to check the ‘assets’ of his potential brides, loses all of them for this reason. When he finally finds his match, he decides to give up the act at all. But the lure of ‘one-last-attempt’ leads to a string of unfortunate problems for him. The car he steals then has more than what he bargains for. A terrorist gang and a buffoon politician are after the same car. The plot unfolds neatly and all the loose ends are tied up in the end.

What works for Rambo is the plot and an ensemble cast who arrive on the screen at strategic points. The characters of Rangayana Raghu and Sadhu Kokila, arguable two of the biggest comedy stars in the industry now, make their entry after the interval, keep the film moving at lightning speed. Krishna’s pleasing-to-the-eye camera work and Arjun Janya's foot-tapping numbers add to the grandeur.

What goes against the film is the sprinkling of double entendres which may not work with the family audience. The director tries to extract comedy from the mannerisms of the actors rather than from the plot itself. So Umashree, Rangayana Raghu and Sadhu Kokila seem to be too dramatic at times. A ‘patho’ song, though cut in half, was completely unnecessary. Maybe Sharan can emote all kinds of emotions, but even in a film in which he is the lead actor, audience expects comedy from him, more than anything else. His one film as the lead actor before this, Sundari Ganda Sadananda, fell flat once the Hollywood film plot from Phone Booth was introduced midway.

Despite the drawbacks, Rambo is an entertaining film if you suspend belief and forgive some of the improbable elements. It could have been funnier, but that need not stop you from enjoying it in its present form. And one small bit; in the film Rambo is an animal. That they did not show you any promo.

Rambo 3D - Sharan - Arjun - Releasing on7th Empty Re: Rambo 3D - Sharan - Arjun - Releasing on7th

Times of India Review

Rambo

Critic's Rating: ***1/2

Cast: Sharan, Madhuri, Tabala Nani, Rangayana Raghu, Umashri, Shruthi, Sanketh Kashi
Direction: MS Srinath
Genre: Drama
Duration: 2 hours 18 minutes

Story: When Sharan is the name we are talking about, scenes are bound to be comical. Rambo, a complete commercial movie, doesn't disappoint Sharan fans. It's 60 per cent comedy and 40 per cent sentiment coupled with action and a climax that takes a sudden turn bringing terrorism into the limelight.

Movie Review: A good show by MS Srinath who has carved an excellent role for Sharan in his 100th movie. With a neat script laced with hilarious dialogues, the director gives you a good combo of romance, sentiment, comedy, action and patriotism in the climax. While the first half has romance, the second half is full of sentiment and action with interesting turns and twists.

The focus of the story is a stolen car (KA 19RK 1988) in which a body is found in a bag. Kitty (Sharan), who has the penchant for selling cars in his own cunning way, keeps this car and changes its colour and number. He is shocked to see the body of Mercy, a girl who is killed in an accident in Pakistan. The story takes a curious turn when we come to know that terrorists use her body to send their plans through a pen drive, hidden in her left leg in a piece of rod. At the same time, we find Mangalore Annappa (Rangayana Raghu), former minister, searching the car of the same number as he had kept Rs 25 crore in the back seat. There is also a romantic touch to the story when Kitty falls in love with Ravathi (Madhuri) and their romance hitting roadblocks many times. But who is this Rambo? That's the real hero of the movie.

Full marks to Sharan, who has excellently balanced comedy, romance and sentimental sequences. Pretty Madhuri has essayed her role well. Rangayana Raghu impresses with Mangalore Kannada. Tabala Nani has done good work in a supporting role. 'Mungaru Male' Krishna's cinematography is impressive. Music by Arjun Janya has some catchy tunes, especially Jaya Jaya Jacketu.
