Nandeesha movie review in Rediff.com

Srikanth Srinivasa feels Kannada film Nandisha is a disappointingly mediocre film from an established director.

Director Saiprakash's last release of 2012 is a remake of the Malayalam hit Thilakam. Nandisha does not live up to the top billing it got, mostly because comedian Komal is appearing in a movie for the first time after the stupendous success of Govindaya Namaha earlier this year.

The film is about a couple whose young son Nandisha goes missing in a fair. The couple go in search of the boy who is now a grown up man. At an orphanage, they find a mentally challenged man who is just like their son.

Nandisha behaves like a small boy and creates all sorts of trouble for the villagers and his parents. His hobby is collecting dhotis, leading to comical situations in the village as he snatches them from people who wear them.

Kavya (Malavika) is in love with Nandisha, much against the wishes of her uncle who wants to marry her himself. Nandisha begins slowly to regain his memory, and says he is actually Vishnuvardhan. His earlier life then unfolds.

Komal, who usually provides the comic relief in films, does not quite fit the bill as the hero. He hardly raises a few laughs which is a big disappointment for his fans and for audiences.

Malavika does not have much of a role. Parul, who shot to fame in the Pyarge Aagbutaide number from Govindaya Namaha, has an extended guest appearance in the film. She also gets to dance two numbers in the picturesque locale of Switzerland [ Images ].

Srinivasa Murthy has acted well and so has Ramesh Bhat. The songs are forgettable and the one redeeming feature in the movie is the lush green locations and snowy mountains of Switzerland.

Nandisha is a disappointingly mediocre film from an established director.

Nandeesha review from Bangalore Mirror


When in doubt, go for a remake. This time-tested philosophy had at times threatened to eliminate original content in Sandalwood. Ironically, veterans, who made their name and fortune with remake films, have started talking against it while quite a few of the newer generation are adopting it. Komal, for whom Nandeesha is the third home production, has relied on the decade-sold Malayalam film Thilakkam (Lustre). The film is a sort of comeback for the veteran director of remakes, Om Sai Prakash.

An aged couple is still searching for their son who they lost 18 years earlier. He is finally found in an orphanage (yes, apart from Komal, the rest of those there are juveniles) and has lost his memory. Taken to home in a village, he becomes a menace with his strange habit of snatching dothis from people. The first half of the film is about attempts to get him back to normalcy. His childhood sweetheart tries to get him regain memory by showing him around the village, the Ayurvedic pandit and the black magician have their own ways as well. But it left to the oldest memory regaining methods in movies; a-fight and a hard hit on the head to do the trick. Despite the cheap dhoti-snatching jokes, the first half is quite a good watch.

Then comes the interval and the flashback. It turns out that Komal is not really the son of the aged couple. His real father was trying to save his life from the goons hired by a corporate, whose secrets Komal has with him. After the memory is regained, Komal also realises that he has an unfinished task and revenge to fulfill. It is an age-old tale with hardly anything remarkable.

The biggest disappointment in the film is Hamsalekha. Neither his music or lyrics has even a touch of his magic. Has Sandalwood passed by him? In one of the songs, Komal seems to be imitating Ravichandran. His combination with Parul does not recreate Pyarge Aagibittaite. Veterans Srinivas Murthy and Ramesh Bhat stand out with their performances.

Nandeesha Movie review in Times of India


Comedian-cum-hero Komal seems to be still basking in the glory of his previous successful movie Govindayanamaha. His latest venture Nandeesha has all commercial elements that don't suit the character of Komal. Still it's not a disappointing fare.

Director Om Saiprakash, known for making sentimental movies, has come out with a complete commercial story with Komal as hero. Though the script and the narration are up to the mark, the role of Komal does not suit his character. Known for comic dialogues with a punch, fans look for Komal as a comedian, but Nandeesha doesn't give much importance to the comedy track, especially in the second half.

The story has two parts. While the first part focuses on Nanjundaswamy (Srinivasamurthy) who successfully traces his son Nandeesha (Komal) in an orphanage after years, the second half takes a commercial turn with Vishnu (Komal), owner of a TV channel, being attacked by goons from a pharmaceutical company for telecasting the company's drug trial on human beings. In between we have Nandeesha, an innocent youth who has loss of memory, falling in love with Kavya (Malavika) and incurring the wrath of the villagers for his mischievous acts. The curious turn comes when Hanumanthaiah (Ramesh Bhat), owner of the orphanage, who had handed over Nandeesha to Nanjundaswamy, claims that Nandeesha was actually his son Vishwa.

Komal has done an excellent job as Nandeesha, but disappoints as Vishwa. Malavika scores over Parul in acting. Srinivasamurthy and Ramesh Bhat have done justice to their roles. Music by Hamsalekha is okay. Selvam's camera work passes muster.

Nandeesha movie review in Indiaglitz

The one releasing for the end of the year 2012 'Nandeesha' lifted from Malayalam comedy flick made in 2003 'Thilakkam' is another mediocre film.

For the comedy hero image of Komal Kumar this is not befitting. Either comedy in bizarre of scenes or funny dialogues - trump cards of Komal Kumar previous hits is somehow not found in 'Nandeesha'. What is expected from comedy heroes should be rolled inside the camera for cash registers ringing. Like the usual run of the mill hero picks the roles does not suit Komal Kumar. Coming after 10 years this is such a usual flick.

The content remains the same from the original cinema 'Thilakkam' written by Rafi Macartin. Racy numbers from Hamsalekha and good cinematography from Selvam lifts the film. The performances are quite OK but instead of serious comedy the series of rib tickling scenes were required.

Believed as Nandeesha (Komal Kumar) has got a tragic past. His father kept him in the orphan house and when the affectionate teacher Nanjundaswamy (Srinivasamurthy) was found as the right man the partially mentally retarded Nandeesha reaches the village with some ulterior motive of his father.

In the village everyone believes that Nandeesha is found and the mental stress in Nandeesha makes him to behave awkwardly. In fact an artist makes the sketch from boy Nandeesha photo to the grown up Nandeesha photo that strengthen the bondage. As the turn of incidents lead to an accident Nandeesha recovers from mental stress. In the past life he is Vishnu owner of OK Television channel in Ooty. Vishnu and Sonia (Parul Yadav) progress the channel but the obstacle comes when Sonia makes an investigative story for a series of deaths happening. This irks the KP Pharmaceuticals to the helm. A plot is arranged to finish off Vishnu and Sonia. In the attack only Sonia dies from a steep fall but Vishnu receives a blow to his head. Vishnu father to save his son from further danger ward him off to a village.

Komal Kumar has not failed in delivering dialogues and giving good performance. His improvement from this film is good dance. As a producer he has given good production values, locations and artists for the film.

Parul Yadav from Pyaar Ge Agbuttaithe....in 'Govindayanamaha' with Komal Kumar is an actress with potentiality. She appears in the second half but looks very sweet. Malavika as the village belle is quite OK. Ramesh Bhat, Vijayalakshmi and Srinivasamurthy rendered able support.

Balu Bandre Batalli Hodi....Hrudaya yes andre Kisssali Hodi....is a racy and peppy number from Hamsalekha. There are two others impressive tunes from the talented senior music director.

Selvam camera angles are a treat to watch. Gokak Falls looks as good as Jog Falls show in 'Mungaru Male'.

This is a film with sentiments, action, mixed with comedy. Worth a free time watch!
